PlayStation Around the Web: What We Read
Posted in PS3 Reviews, Ps3 News by Jeff Rubenstein | No CommentsA week from today, I’ll be heading down to LA for E3 2008. I wanted to run some of the coverage plans by you, and see what you’d like to see on the blog during the week of July 14.
Next week we’ll ramp up to the Expo by sharing interviews with producers and developers of the games you’ll be seeing at E3. I asked you to tell me what you wanted to know, and that’s exactly what happened. One interview a day through the kickoff of the conference.
Once we get going, I’ll be live-blogging our press conference for those who won’t be able to watch streaming coverage (things kick off at 11.30am Pacific Tuesday, so I’d imagine those of you in the work world will be busy with that). Throughout the rest of the conference I’ll be doing my best to answer your questions and follow your coverage requests. I’ll ask for those suggestions next week.
Also, I’d like to know: who’s going to be in LA that week? I’d like to meet up with readers, fanboys, fellow bloggers, and any other interested party a few hours after our press conference. Interested? We’ll come up with something fun and free. Let me know in the comments.
Below you’ll find what we’ve been reading. As always, feel free to share your favorite reads in the comments below. Comments may take longer than usual to appear - the blog team is out for the weekend.

Here is Google’s Desktop Sidebar with the Google Media Server Gadget. The gadget requires Google Desktop 5 or above. It allows media to be streamed to UPnP enabled devices, like the PlayStation 3.
The setup was quite easy:
- Download and install Google Desktop.
- Download and install Google Media Server Gadget.
- Internet Explorer asked to change the Security Settings to Intranet. We’re not 100% sure of the risks in changing this. Read more here.
- Turn on the PlayStation 3 and Login. You will see the default:Google:MediaServer icon on the XMB.
- Go back to the PC and go to the Google Media Server Admin page and click on Devices. You should see your PS3’s IP Address. Click on the box to allow access, Save.
- Also select which folders you want shared.
- You can now access Photos (Desktop, Picasa, and Picasaweb), Music, and Videos (Desktop and Youtube) on your PlayStation 3 with the help of Google Desktop Media Server Gadget.

Google Media Server Gadget for Google Desktop is in beta stage. We had problems with Google Desktop indexing our media files. Only the new files showed up, therefore they were the only ones visible to the PS3.
The YouTube video below is laggy due to our wireless network. It would be nice if there was a YouTube search function.

As has been reported on many gaming blogs and websites, we have temporarily taken Firmware v2.40 offline. We’ve received a limited number of calls from consumers experiencing an issue with installing the system software update on their PS3. While our consumer services department has seen a low volume of calls on this topic, we are committed to providing the PS3 community with XMB access features delivered in the v2.40 update. We are working diligently to isolate the problem for those few consumers and to identify a solution before we put the firmware back up.
We’ll provide further information as necessary here on the Blog.
Hey Everyone! All the Sucker Punchers here at HQ are super excited about the July issue of Game Informer (available at fine magazine stands everywhere). GI has a 10-page cover story on inFamous, our (deep breath) open-world-modern-day-super-hero-action-adventure game. The article does a great job capturing the best things about inFamous.
A pile of screen shots showing Dylan’s powers? Check. A first hand account of the addictive gameplay? Check. An intro to the player-driven story line? Check. The whole thing really nails what we’re after with the game: an evolving open city where you get to choose how you use your strange newfound powers. Will you use the powers for good? …or for something else?
A bunch of news about inFamous will be released during this year’s E3, so keep an eye out. We’re finishing up a new trailer, more artwork, some interviews, and more details about the gameplay. If you’re too anxious to wait, check out these new exclusive screenshots.
